Buy a 2300cc motorbike and worry about the MPG??????????????? Ride it until the light comes on (150miles)then start looking for a petrol station.:D

When regular hits 5 bucks a gallon, and it will and not too far in the future either...., you'll start worring a bit about mileage. That's why I have the KLR. Like the Kymco it's freeway friendly and gets 60 mpg. My R3 got 40 last fall before Gus got a hold of it. I suspect it's mid 30's now.

I have to candidly say that if I owned a motorcycle that got less mpg than my cage, i'd be driving the cage and selling the bike. 24 is unacceptable, I don't care how big of balls the bike has.

Totally stock 08 r3 standard 45 riding with harleys 34 playing with ****** rockets but even if it got 24 it would be totally worth it if I want gas milage Ill ride my klr .

I'm considering another bike but quite a bit smaller like a duel sport 250. Something light enough to play in the woods with and get around town with. I could tow it with the rocket and still get 35/g. ;)

35 if I'm "on it" - 40 if riding with the mini-bikes (V-Stars, Kaw Vulcans, Street Glides, Road Glides, etc). When my "Petrol light" goes on - I pretty much have 70 miles to play with.

Heard it all the time Flip-- when it hits $2 a gal, $3 a gal $4 a gal remember it did go over $4 a gal did not slow my riding down one bit the kids lost quite a bit of weight due to less food being bought as the Rocket gets fed first. :D

I have a bad feeling that you'll see gasoline at European prices stateside. That means (with the piss poor valued FRN) over 5 bucks a gallon for regular (laced with ethanol at an ever increasing percentage much to the dismay of the R3 powerplant) and other grades of piss that refiners call gasoline today. It all part of Obama's plan to insure the longevity of Government Motors and to a lesser extent, Chrysler. Instead of allowing a choice in auto's, Obama will artificially raise the price of gasoline to cause the public to 'want' to buy roller skate cars. Besides, the added revenue will benefit the Obama administration with increased revenue that they can spend willy nilly.

It's all a plan, you are just an unwilling participant.

To Baggage...

If I wanted a primarily off road bike, I'd look at the Kawasaki 250 Sherpa. It can do a limited amount of road work but it excells in the woods and it gets upwards of 70 to the gallon.

I have soft bags and a tail trunk on the KLR and it makes a great to the store and post office bike.

It depends...

With:
  1. a custom performance tune
  2. jardines
  3. triple K&Ns
  4. windscreen
Highway riding ... @40mpg - 75-80+mph (at a consistent speed)
or local riding... @35 - 35-65 mph (constantly changing speed and stopping for lights)
How badly my hand is twitching that day... @30-25 WOT (blasting constantly)

Or if the old Lady (Honda 750) is with me... 40+ consistent 70mph

The fewer the performance mods, the better your mileage...

If you want good gas mileage, buy a scooter:eek:
If you wanna have fun.... does it really matter?!:D
