Metzeler ME 880 Marathon XXL Rear Tire

Go darkside... 100 bucks for a Riken Raptor... will last you 30K instead of 6K miles. I put mine on just over 1K ago, and I don't regret it at all. It was worth the risk of wasting the 100 bucks.

I don't know what you're replacing, but the OEM Bridgestones on my R3T were replaced by Triumph (recall) with the Marathons. I like them better than the Bridgestones. They have better feel/handling. I don't about wear yet because they only have about 500 miles on them.

I had my tires replaced under the recall. The Metzeler's are great. I've had them on other bikes. They handle well, last a long time, and other than costing a lot compared with darkside tires, are a great value. I tried the darkside for over 5k miles and just didn't care for it.

Tire prices

Lowest price for a 240/50-16 I found on the internet is $224 with free shipping from Motorcycle Superstore - Motorcycle Accessories and Motorcycle Gear. Does anyone know of a better price?

I got a rear from Ron Ayers ... Ron Ayers Motorsports - Motorcycle, ATV, Jet Ski and Generators Parts and Accessories ... a while back for about $209, as I recall ... it was less than MCSS and is closer to me.

I have not seen the R3 tires there since then, however.

I have used MCSS because they usually have the R3 tires available.

Long Term Test...............

.....As I nurse my 880 closer to oblivion, I wait patiently for a long term test report on the Avon. If, the Avon for the Rock is as good and as durable as the other Avon motorcycle tires, I'll be reshoeing with the Avon.

I just can't bring myself yo go darkside. The squared off tire just screams 'it's a ***** to corner with' to me.

The Rock is all about work in curves, even with a sounded off tire. I know because I have other bikes so I can easily compare. The car tire just 'looks' like it makes it even more work. Straight line riding should be effortless, but I ride 2 lanes the majority of the time. I just carry my plugger and compressor in the Pannier at all times.

Hey Flip, does this look like a lot of effort? I don't think anyone at RAAIV complained that the darkside slowed them down in the least.

It's funny how I get a lot of comments on how much of the tire is off the ground. I respond with look how much is still ON the ground!! much more than a rounded tire.

Cornering on my darkside is pretty much effortless... I LOVE THAT PIC by the way. After the first few miles, it becomes second nature. I have no complaints at all. I have had the comment that it looks crazy when I am cornering, but thats about it. Highway riding is great, just like you would think, and the twisties are still fun. I just like the fact that when I am throwing miles on down the highway, I don't have to worry about that patch down the center wearing. Don't get me wrong, if the stock tire was less than $200 after install, I would do that, but I can't justify replacing that tire 2 times a season for the amount of miles I put on. I figure this darkside should save me a boat load of money over its life.... figure close to 1K.

Does anyone know of a R3 get together in the Northeast? I am jealous of all of you down south.

GO BIG OR GO HOME!

I'm with you Flip just can't bring myself to the Dark side. IMO in the picture it looks like the rider is leaning opposite the curve not the one behind him he is more in line with the bike. Oh and note his tire! Of course if the dark side is what a Captain wants then well I say its his bike enjoy as I do my blower:D I am just about ready to skin mine with the Cobra in the rear I have been abusing the Meztler with the new MTC Fibers. If the Cobra rear sticks and feels like the front I will not buy another Meztler unless I have no choice.
