Man did I screw up!

So I was wondering if anything can save me. I had removed the shroud around my radiator and when putting it back on I got my bolts mixed up and poked a hole in the the top of the radiator. Anything short of a new radiator? TIA.

The short silence must be killing you, but someone with actual experience (not me) will surely be along soon to either give an amen to soldering with copper or suggesting a better idea. I found this link that should give you some hope. Good luck and let us know what you finally do.

Fixing (or NOT fixing) a hole in a radiator

p.s. I'm about to remove my radiator and thanking you now for sharing this. Note to self to mark the specific bolt locations, as I probably would not have had I not seen your post.
 
Maybe ebay or a parted out one. Can't tell if you drove the bolt into the radiator or what happened. There are some good radiator shops that might be able to braze of the fitting and repair the sheetmetal (if that;s what I'm seeing)
KC is a big city and I would look for a shop and ask them

Since the bolt hole is the only place it WAS leaking I just wrapped the h*** out of the right bolt with Teflon tape put it all back together and no leakage. At least I think it'll get me to a real fix.
 
I had a hole torn in mine from one of the mounts after a down.
Rob, @Claviger repaired it with JB Weld and it held for over a thousand miles when I replaced the rad just to be sure.
I say give it a try and reach out to Rob for more information.

That's my next step if I need it. Fill the hole with JB weld. Then tap a new hole.
 
Wow, I'm with the folks who recommend a radiator shop -- though these are going the way of the Dodo bird, along with chroming and dry cleaners -- because of the toxicity of the materials.

There is so much heat and pressure, along with the normal vibration, I would want metal on metal secured with solder. Remember, with antifreeze, the boiling point is considerably higher -- all the more stress on the components.

And having done it, I can say removing the radiator is pretty straight forward on the Rocket, with the main concern putting something soft on the fender so as not to mar it.

I am really not scared. I am betting it will get me to West Virginia in June. After all the coolant doesn't get hot enough to affect the Teflon tape. I had the bike out running around popping wheelies with no problems.
