Let's talk "low fuel level lights"

I was lurking over on the .com site and I see Mr. Road Venture posted the same post there as here did here and got the same answers there as he did here.

Per chance you think we are idiots here or something or do you just need a second opinion??

Maybe you should go there and post that the tank is made from 50X AKDQ drawing quality cabinet grade steel. Don't tell 'em how you found out.

I have my own opinion about opinions and I can't post it here.

I'll be the first to admit that we stray off threads from time to time but if you want the straight scoop from the guys with the knowledge and the expertise. This is the place and the only place to get it.......period. If you wan to inflate your ego and talk about **** that's not revelant to the bike then other site is the place to be, that is, until one of the Austrailians get's a hold of your butt and then you'll wish you never stuck your foot in your cake hole. Just ask Hombre about that.

Maybe you should go stick it up your ass. How's that for an opinon?

Why should you or anyone care where and when I ask questions to try to learn more about the Rocket III? I feel the more information I can get the better. You do not have a monopoly on information or knowledge.

As far as critisizing the "other forum" it seems to me that you have demonstrated that you are no better than those who you choose to look down on.

Thanks for all your help, but I have no idea where this sign of insecurity on your part is coming from. I had the opinion that you were a pretty knowledgable fellow and you probably are but you also seem to be able to be quite a jerk at times. Maybe you are just having a bad evening..........

My opinion, only, of course.

Pig9r,

Thanks for the picture. That helps a lot to let me know just what the sender will look like.

That's a good play-by-play. I take it the float rests on the bottom of the tank forward of the assembly? Since the tank is 18 gage cold rolled AKDQ (aluminum killed drawing quality) steel, would it be possible to set the assembly on a flat surface and put a brass or steel 18 gage shim under the flaot end to calibrate it?

After you separate the fuel pump assembly from the tank you will notice that the part of the tank that mates to the bottom of the fuel pump assembly is not just flat but rather has a big lip on it that extends into the tank. I believe that the float rest on this lip when the tank is nearly empty but I am not positive about this as it is hard to see the float through the filler neck. If the float does rest on this tank lip you could bend the arm slightly so the float rests more to the right side of the tank in order to miss the lip and then make a shim the thickness of the tank to calibrate sending unit. Also keep in mind you have to take into account the compression of the rubber gasket that is sandwiched between the assembly and the tank. When you bolt the fuel pump assembly into the tank the gasket will compress. The sending unit is extremely sensitive, the slightest movement will change the voltage output quite a bit. Ideally the best way to calibrate the sending unit would be to have a old tank bottom to bolt the fuel pump assembly to and then bend the float arm/wire until you get 2.3 volts when the float rests on the tank bottom. When I did mine I had to guesstimate a bit to ensure I would get the 2.3 volts needed to make the low fuel warning light come on. I would like to redo mine if I could find an old tank I could cut apart and use the bottom part of the tank to make the most accurate calibration. So if anyone out there has an old piece of crap tank that maybe their pissed off ex-girlfriend took a baseball bat to:eek:, I would be interested in getting it from them.

There is one here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Triu...016QQitemZ260178716836QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

but it is still attached to a "piece of crap" Rocket III. If the bike doesn't sell, maybe the owner would be willing to part it out...........

There are three sites, the original Triumphrat.net, the upstart r3owners.com, and this site.

I thought this site was related to the original since this site has gone down at the same time the original was down. Otherwise, we all have Rockets and we're all interested in how they work.

As far as cussing goes, it's OK on r3owners.com. How about here?
