Thank Steve, I'm a little nervous about it popping out of gear under load at a critical moment, even though it has not happened yet... I will practice shifting with authority...
The pre 08's are known to lose second gear. I was dogging mine one time and shifted hard to second. I don't know if I missed second fully or it failed on its own but after that, it would regularly pop out of second. If you are careful, you will probably have no problems. There are several threads addressing the issue.

Not so much authority as technique. Make sure it "clunks" when it goes into 1st. Best way to do that is to let the clutch out in neutral and then go into first. By that I mean after you've pulled the clutch in to start the bike, let it out (in neutral) and then pull it in again to go into 1st. You'll get the hang of it and find the best way for you - sometimes the just needs a little working as you go into 1st. If the bike's still moving it's normally OK. Just make sure it clunks, every time, and it shouldn't jump out of gear.
Yesterday It was sunny and 80 so I took Hwy 2 North, Angeles Crest Highway, to Newcomb’s Ranch Restaurant. It was a glorious ride. I ran the bike hard in 2nd gear without a single problem. In fact my Rocket is one of the smoothest shifting bikes I have ever owned... So far so good...
Canberra you are right about the double clutch on start, That works like a champ... ;-)
