I really think a full dressed touring would sell more units than 170 hp version of what we already have would sell but what do I know.

2.3L should be enough for anyone
2.5L would be even better though
But yes, unless it's a new bike it hardly seems worth it. And they're not exactly marketing the rocket with any kind of zeal, so a "new" model seems unlikely.
Have there been any credible reports of a new rocket-esque model?

I disagree. Depreciation is never a moot point. Would you rather have your home appreciate or depreciate? Taking advantage of depreciation makes great financial sense. I would rather buy a used 2016 Silverado for $30K when it cost $45K new, or a used or leftover 2016 R3T for $10K with a warranty when the bike sold for $18K new. Unless you are sh!tting one hundred dollar bills all day it makes good sense to manage your budget.

Yes. I spoke to the Triumph rep for my area last year. He told me an all new "Rocket" would be out by 2020. New frame, engine, an entire new bike.

I agree. A full touring bike with Bags, tour back and a factory full fairing with electronics and an adjustable windshield would sell great in the states. A bike like the Valkyrie Interstate I would spend money on.

My 2015 R3T is still sitting at the dealership waiting for spring. There was nothing I saw that made me think I should have waited.

Other than the engine, it appears they are trying to scale down the overall size/look of the bike. The only option they asked me about was position of the foot controls. Forward or under. I said under. The pipes were blended into the body style. The tank was balanced on both sides. Radiator is smaller. Mirrors on the end of the bars. They did not get V-Rod crazy with it. She asked if I thought 170 hp was too much. Of coarse I said hell no.

I am not an artist and the whole thing took maybe 4 or 5 minutes. They kept the questions coming and images moving quick enough I could not really focus on the overall bike. They would show an image and ask a question about a specific area and I would focus on it and answer. I was a good monkey. They did not ask for a non-disclosure or tell me not to talk.

All I can say is it was a nice looking machine. They did not call it a Rocket, but it is the evolution of it. I would think the way they are bringing everything in tight Handling seems to be their focus.

Prices they showed me were in the $18,500. to $21,000 range US. The question was what would you pay.

Just good to know that the evolution of the Rocket is there. Personally I think it is in the fine tuning stages. It looked like a pretty complete, well thought out package.

May also explain the price drops we are seeing. They would want to clear out any remaining inventory before putting the beast on the dealer floors.

Our bikes are going to be the classic models soon and if you like the current models snatch one up.

I totally agree with you on a full tour package. That was not a question, but I did tell her a bike this big should have a touring package.

Whole thing kinda reminds me when the original Goldwing came out and everyone ran out and got Vetter fairing, bags, and trunk for it.

Do you remember seeing the Goldwing for the first time and thinking it was a monster bike. Who would be crazy enough to ride a monster like that.

I remember seeing the KZ1300 and thinking how big I would have to get to ride one. And how bad I wanted one. The early naked Gold Wing was a pretty big bike too. I am sure when they figure out what the next Rocket will be, there will be a Roadster and a Touring.

In 1975 when Honda debut the 1000 cc Gold Wing, it was their intention for it to be a sport bike.

I told the Triumph rep we would like to see 4 versions of the new Rocket. A Standard bike, Light Touring package, Full dress Cross Continent "Gold Wing" style bike with trailer hitch and accompanying Triumph matching trailer, and then a full blown I mean BLOWN Hooligan bike with 200 plus HP. He said we might see some of those ideas come out as real bikes.
