Is there an IQ test for Marine recruits?

IQ or no, you got to make some serious mistakes before you can look at things with a critical eye. My guess is the boot saw eye candy, and nothing else. The fact that it ran was all he needed to know.

Back in 75 at the ripe age of 17 I graduated marine corps basic. Went straight to the Yamaha dealership and bought a brand new RD350. Had limited experience riding dirt bikes but had never rode a street bike. Rode the bike from San Diego to San Bernardino. Crowded Southern California freeways is no place to learn how to ride a street bike. How I made it to San Bernardino in one piece was pure luck. Common sense does not exist at that age. ;););););)

The reason we survive such escapades is no one told us it couldn't be done! So we do it! I walked across a river on the underside of a bridge...my Grandfather was so astounded, that he followed me across!

Exactly! As a young Rescue Swimmer, my squadron was at NAS Roosevelt Roads PR conducting training. One fine morning, me and three other swimmers were getting ready to swim from Puerto Rico to Vieques; roughly 4 miles across somewhat shallow waters, 15-30 feet. One of our officers heard about this and came in storming mad. Telling how stupid and impossible it was and gave was a direct order not to do it. I wonder if he found out we had already done it once the previous day or not.

Great example of not being told something wasn't possible until after it had been done...
