Insurance in Ontario

I actually just returned a call from Riders plus, they hadn't switched my wifes address yet, so Echelon (who provides the insurance to riders plus) wanted to cancel the multi-bike discount, its back on, Echelon has not raised their rates to date, my rider rating actually went up,so she is resending a quote with an additional discount.:D

Riders plus does multi-bike discounts? I have 2 bikes... What kind of rates are you paying for multiple bikes?

I cant remember what mine ended up being, but hers dropped $450 when we switched, some of which was a better rate, and some of which was attributed to the multi bike. In total we save $1450 between the 2 bikes with me leaving TD, and taking hers off state farm.

I just did an online quote and put in both my Rocket and ST1300... $4000 a year for both bikes?!! how the hell is that possible?

That all being said, Riders has 2 insurance companies that carry them, but echelon is the only one who will carry the 2300cc, the other one wont touch it, but so far so good, they have been giving me the best prices.

Alright I just spoke to my personal agent at my State Farm here in Thornhill. I told her about my concerns regarding the price hikes and she said that there was an actual error in the system (State farm switching to Desjarden) and there was a miscalculation for around 700 bikers where their rates were not calculated properly and the system sent out automatic notices to the customers in the mail. They are aware of the issue, claiming that they are actively working to fix the problem by January 29th. Desjardan owns a number of companies but TD is not one of them, so I can't say why TD rates are going up but its possible they are trying to muscle out the bikers so they are forced to move somewhere else. As far as my state farm account is concerned, she said that the owners of that agency themselves (husband and wife) are both insured through the same company as me and their rates are not effected, and mine don't seem to be affected as well at this point.

Now she did mention that while rates can go up, they can also go down and that rates going up 30, 60 or 80% is not normal and if they do increase rates its done in a slow manner, raising it up slowly as they don't actually want to lose your business.

Either way , she said for me not to worry about it since the "news" coming out right now appears to show the problem around the automated error which they are correcting. Thats the latest I can find out right now.

Edit: She did mention that she knows that rates for SUPER SPORTS and Unique motorcycles like HD Trikes will go up for sure. Others should not be affected greatly or at all.

I broke the new ground with State Farm in 2005 with the 2300 , the underwriters out of TO wanted to decline insuring me on the 2300 after I sold my Busa that was insured no problem with them LOL . I told my agent I would pull all my business which at the time was a fair chunk of change and after two weeks of *****ing at my agent they relented
