Inexpensive Starter Replacement

Hello all, received my starter today, Amazon uk £118 delivered, unbolted the mounting bracket and gears, 4 bolts, 2 long and 2 short, had to shorten the shaft with the dremel by an inch and a bit to match the triumph starter, bolted back together to the triumph bracket and straight back onto the bike. It’s a bit bigger than the original starter, I have the triumph decat pipe and there’s just enough room (2006 classic). Pressed start and it spins up like never before, I’m well impressed 😀 took about an hour.
It's been a long time, but couldn't you just use the shaft from the stock starter? I don't remember cutting anything, but not positive, I think it's been 10 years

most guys use the starter nose off the original starter
i don't know what he was talking about unless the larger was hitting something.
edit
some talked about cutting 1/16 to 1/8 off but that checked out to be not necessary.
no cutting necessary
