Hey captains! I need some tech help. My rocket ship has idle issues now. It started with a fuel fillup at a station where I always buy fuel...real fuel, not the alcho stuff. After the fuel up, and within five miles, I started noticing it running a little goofy. After a slow turn onto my road, I had to keep the RPM up because it wouldn't idle. It died while pulling back into the hanger.( rocket ship talk) I assumed that the fuel was the culprit, so I drained it imediately the next day and refilled with fresh fuel from the house. I still had idle issues. I saw a post about a twelve minute tune, so I completed the tune. I shut the bike down and let it cool and restarted to move into the garage and idle was back to normal at 850 rpm. The captain and co-pilot went on a trip of 25 miles the next day and when returning i noticed the idle very slow again to the point of dieing if I didn't maintain some throttle. I completed another 12 minute tune and everything was fine again. I went for a 300 mile run the next week. Upon meeting my buddy at the quick stop, I proceeded to show how the Triump had " fixed itself" only to see that the same idle issue of idleing about 450 rpm was back! I completed the run and the next day completed another 12 minute tune. The idle speed was back to normal as I rolled it into the shop. I started the rocket today for a trip and now my idle is 1450rpm after proper warmup and will fall to 450rpm at a stop light of about 30 seconds. I rode the bike home and the idle was 1450 most of the time falling to 450rpm after a 30 second stop light. When reaching the house, I started the rocket to pull in the garage and notice the fan was on so I assumed the temp was warm and this time the rpm was the normal 850. What is wrong with my Rocket machine???

Probably just needs a reset, you can do it with Tune ECU and a $20 cable, or have your dealer do it. I have an extra TPS, actually, I bought it but then didn't need it, I just reset the existing one.

Since it is intermittent I suspect the near failure of a sensor.
What year is the bike. If more than 4 years old, check Vacuum lines and coils
But

Check the connection on the coils. (Wire, connector, insulation)

Check the vacuum lines. the dry out of some lines near the heat of the engine may have a crack.

???

Mine was very intermittent, that's why I bought a new one. Tried a reset with tune ECU for the heck of it and been fine for 3000 miles or so.

Definatley a 95% probability it's TPS. Get a new one & use Tuneecu or the bike shop to set it.Easy fix Turning the ignition off & on again can temporarily stabalise it, but it will go wrong again( the old one) in a few miles.

Thanks guys! The bike is a 2006 standard. I have a friend that has a touring and he also has some sort of tune program and a cord. I think I need to look at my vaccuum lines. rubber quality has gone down on all hoses lately. Seven years may be long enough! If that doesn't do it I think I will try to get my buddy to reset the TPS. Then last shot I will change the TPS. Any clue how bad it will shrink my wallet to buy a new TPS???

They are a little over a hundred bucks; I believe.
