How to tell if I have the right cable

The one I have, that does not work, not recognized by any computer when plugged in, is the one from the Amazon link in the early posts. These things are so cheesy, it's probably a shot in the dark as to whether you get a good one, or not. And yes, I spent all day yesterday (was raining here), trying all the drivers, loading, unloading, rebooting, even tried the older drivers. NUTTIN. This morning I tried my ELM OCBll on the bike. Computer recognizes it, and sets up a serial port, Com1. However, TuneEcu will not connect to the bike. Did all the usual, turn on, off, on, battery tender hooked up, headlight fuse pulled etc. etc. I'll probably wait until I get another cord, before I pull any more of my hair out. Sun finally trying to show, so I'm gonna go ride!:D

Hi,

The ODBll ELM327 is not compatible with TuneECU.
For Triumph, Aprilia, KTM and Benelli (Benelli Sagem models only), the USB interface is used in TuneECU.
The COM interface is for Benelli Walbro models only and requires completely other cables.

For Triumph, Aprilia and KTM and Benelli (Benelli-Sagem models only), the cable must have one of the following FTDI chips:

Chip Typ: FT232R, Vendor ID: 0x0403, Produkt ID: 0x6001
Chip Typ: FT232/245BM, Vendor ID: 0x0403, Produkt ID: 0x6001
And from TuneBoy the USB-Cable with Chip Type: FT232R, Vendor ID: 0x0403, Produkt ID: 0xBF40 Note: this cable only works with the Tuneboy cable drivers, which provided by tuneboy.
You can check the cable with the program "FT_Prog" from FTDI.

I myself use various cables with this chip versions and all work without problems.

The General processing of the cable itself, must be of course good quality.

BR, Tom

Hey Tom, thanks for that ifo. The TuneEcu program is great. Now I just gotta wait for my cable to arrive! You the man!;)

All right, sorry about all the posts, "however" The cable I started with, came from the Amazon/Triumph link, early on in this thread. I got it to try to work first time, then died. Did all the re-solder stuff, still no go. So, after reading Tom's last post, took the cable back apart, (for the 5th or 6th time), and still couldn't find anything wrong on "that end". The problem was at the USB connector end! Found I could wiggle it around while plugged into the puter, and it would come and go. Wacked the end off, and replaced (soldered) an end off of a working USB cable, and PRESTO, it's working. Right now, I'm reading my factory map. Takes about 20 to 30 minutes. Then I'll save, and TRY to load an unrestricted map. 2013 bone stock. We'll see.

OK, my final post on this subject, (I HOPE) And something IMPORTANT!
My 2013 will not engage the starter, with the 20 amp headlight fuse out!
Figured I screwed the pooch big time after I uploaded a map, and bike wouldn't do anything. Read map, saved map, downloaded map, over and over. Did reading, more reading. Finally decided to put the headlight fuse back in, and she fired right up. All I did so far, was to save my original (stock) map. Edited the secondaries to all 100%, downloaded it to the bike, and it's done! Not quite as big a difference as I figured, but noticeable for sure! LOTS of LEOS around my area today. Almost got popped twice on my test run. And a final thought, I wouldn't suggest you try this mapping stuff unless you have a looooot of patience, and a fair knowledge of puters. Thanks again Tom, you got me going by showing the chip numbers.:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I didn't see this thread until after I had already ordered mine. It just got here. Hope this is the right one!

Yes, that one works. I just bought the same one and used the driver that came with it. To my surprise, there is a tab to select TuneECU for Triumph on the setup screen. Installed it and it works perfectly.

This is a shot of the setup screen.
