How far will rear tires go?

Just curious Geek, why not go with the Raptor in a 245/50?

The one that I'm getting had the very best rating on tirerack and discount.com and was also a known entity given that RiderRocketMan has the same tire on his bike.

I've heard that some 245's can actually rub because they are just a smidgen too wide. I don't want to be mean to my drive shaft.

Thanks for all the info. Seems that ordinary folk don't get to much milage of the things at all. That's a little scary 'cause down here in Sydney Australa, the replacement metz costs $475 plus fitting.

Me finks I might invest in a car tyre but I'll have to check with our Roads and Traffic Authority. They have rules for EVERYTHING and if you don't comply the fines are HUGE. Plus the insurance company wont pay up if I have a prang. Hmmmm...I suppose I could sell a kidney, hell I've got two and how many do you really need?

Darkside forever for me

Hey loft bob, how much do you want for your tyre and how much to get it to me in Sydney?

I have a 07 classic with the promotional touring package. Purchased new Oct. 2007. As of this date, the bike has 13500 miles and need to pony up for the 4th rear tire and 3rd front. 4,500 miles on the rear has been my experence.

The bike is stock except for a drop in K&N filter, and the full Jardine exhaust. I don't drag race, I don't do burn outs, and at almost 58 years young I figure the smart money is to forget about the trick riding thats seen on tv or youtube.

I suppose I ride a little aggressive, I won't hesitate to crack the whip to get out of a cage, or spank a rival bike and rider whos working hard at looking smug, but all the while riding like a little puppy pestering big-dog to play.

I figure if the tire cost gets to me, I'll not down size, I'd rather sell my blood, after that I'll consider body parts. *just kidding...no I'm not*

I know what you mean. The $475 plus fitting was from Procycles at St Peters in Sydney - just up the road from my place. Where abouts in OZ do you live? If it's in Sydney (where you got it fitted for $420) can you please let me know? Thanks

I've made my mind up and I'm going to the dark side...The only thing that troubles me is the uncertainty about whether or not a road tyre on my bike would make it unlawful or unroadworthy in the eyes of our State regulators. So I've sent a letter to the New South Wales Minister for Roads asking for an answer to that question. If it' all good then I'm off to fit one. When I get the repsonse from the Minister, I'll PDF it and send it to anyone who can use it for insurance purposes or whatever. I let you all know when I get it.
