You have a chance to get the baddest motor you can get on a production bike, and not having to pay a new bike price & taking on the depreciation, and only 3600 miles.... Not even broke in yet. A No brainer
Maybe we have a member nearby that can eyeball the prize for you, Mavreg. Better safe than sorry and we all know how to properly test ride a Rocket III.
Looks like the bike is in the suburbs just north of Houston, guys.
i deal with broken aluminium transmission cases a lot. i would not let this little hit stop me from buying this bike. if it does seep oil u can drop the pan and clean it up and put some JBWELD on it. not a problem.
Sounds like a stock muffler on a nice running bike! I don't know what the bike is selling sale for, but you should be able to talk the dealer down on the asking price as it has damage not shown in the Carfax report. BTW that minuscule scrap should have no effect on the reliability of the engine. I would check the torque on the sump bolts and of course check for seeping around the gasket seal. Once bought, get rid of the stock mufflers, upgrade to at least a pair of TORs with tune (to give her a little oomph in the sound department) and enjoy the ride!.
Tonight I received some phone calls from my friends: Buy a KTM 1190!!! Buy a BMW S1000XR!!! They are modern hi-tech bikes! If you don't like your Rocket, you will not sell it fast and you will lose a lot in terms of money."
I don't know anything about the resale value of a Rocket in your country.
But I do know that the KTM 1190 is a lot more trouble to work on in any of the flavors KTM 1190s come in. I am friends with three KTM dealers. They are beautiful bikes, but there are a lot of engineering decisions that were made without regard for ease of maintenance or repair.
I also know that the BMW S1000XR will not be as comfortable and will not have as much torque ... but it is so much lighter, that could be a factor in choosing it.
Both the KTM 1190 and the BMW S1000XR will be much easier to throw around.
This is my 50th year of motorcycling and I have owned about 30 bikes. About a quarter of them have been Triumphs and another quarter have been BMWs.
My experience is that up until recently the Triumphs have been generally simpler and easier to maintain and repair.
I like the Triumphs. And I especially like the Rocket engine. It really is very special. The triple has its own unique sound. There are no comparable Harleys.
If you want a bike with amenities, the Rocket's not the bike. But if you want a bike with the coolest motor this side of one fueled with liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen, the Rocket is your choice.
