I have the 2011 R3R with a Power Commander 5 installed. I pulled up the GIPro install guide that Pig posted and my wiring looks nothing like that! There are no wires behind the left side cover, and when I lift the tank, I can't even find a plug with less than 2 pink wires coming out of it! Anyone installed one of these on a new Roadster?

Hey guys .... have we heard this one before? lol

No offense Medic, just pokin' a little fun at you before the others do. :)

It's the triangular plastic piece with the torex screws, the one with the round plastic blank in the middle that the plugs you are after are behind. The instructions are misleading and most go right for the metal side cover.

On the Roadsters I understand that the plug is like the Touring model with three wires rather than just two. I've not seen the plug on Roadsters, I'm just going off what the others have written. I rather envy you guys with factory gear position indicators, once the GiPro is installed it will tell you what gear the bike "thinks" it's in rather than what the actual gear is. That's a handy little gizmo for knowing just what the GiPro is telling the bike.

Don't fret, you will find the plug ... the sensor is right at the back of the engine almost touching the point where the drive shaft leaves the block. Follow the wires if you get lost and the plug will be there. Just don't go pulling too hard on the pins while removing them from the plug, the wires are delicate and can be torn from the crimps rather easily. I always suggest spending a couple bucks and getting the proper tool from Radio Shack that inserts around the pin to allow it to slide out of the plastic housing easily. It can be done with a tiny screwdriver like for eye glasses, but takes knowing just how the barb holds it in place. Look closely at the bare pin on the GiPro harness so you clearly see what you are trying to push down to withdraw the pins on the bike harness.

Take your time, you can do it. Good luck. I'll watch this thread and help best I can just typing. It's well worth the effort.

Yep Hellfire's right it took me awhile to locate the wires too, after that the rest is easy and well worth it too. Take your time, if you can't find it let me know I can help you out, I have the same year R3R as you and I recently did mine.

Thanks guys :) What a great community we have here! So many people willing to help each other out just because of a common bond over a machine. Everyone has been awesome to me since I joined. I know that I don't know much about motors or wiring, but a few guys, Hellfire especially, have been there to help every time I got stuck. I really appreciate it, and I hope to meet all of you eventually so I can thank you all in person.

Cheers

I finished the install. I'm not sure if I notice a difference or not. I mean, the back tire would spin before if I cranked on the throttle, and it still does. I can't really decide, but the GI Pro is installed right. I think I may not weigh enough to do keep the rear tire firmly on the road? I only weigh 140 lbs, and my weight probably doesn't put much pressure on the back tire. I'm a little sad, because when I really get on it, the tire loses grip and I don't really go faster, I just do a fishtail, which is not really what anyone wants....

Try it in second :D

At 140 it should be totally hyper with the gipro set at 3 .
If it spun the tire before it should light it up now :D

If you go over to the dark side you won't be just spinning the tire on dry pavement from a rolling start . With the BFG mounted I have to try to spin the tire, where before I had to try not to. It has more than enough grip to raise the front without thinking about it.

Finish off that Metz and if not the darkside, at least try a Cobra for better grip next time. Start thinking about it now, 'cause rear tires don't live long if you are spinning it.

According to the user's manual, there is no 3?

"5.2. Reviewing and Changing TRE mode
1. Activate the display (refer to section 5.1)

2. Press and release the button. The current TRE mode is displayed (blinking) for 3 seconds. The indication can be one of the followings:

-4: 4th Gear Map used when gear box is not in Neutral
Recommended for all cruisers.
-5: 5th Gear Map used when gear box is not in Neutral
Recommended setting for GSXR1000, GSX1300R, GSF1250.
-6: Other Suzuki Models

Should I set it to 4? I haven't played around with it yet. What do you guys think?
