FWIW, the laws dealing with alcohol go back to the time of the Articles of the Confederation and the Whiskey Rebellion, *still* permit one to distill alcohol for one's own consumption, with the caveat it be done 50 feet from one's dwelling (these things had a uncomfortable occurrence of exploding). All the hullabaloo comes from selling it, and trying to avoid the $13.50/
proof gallon.
So what I've seen at gatherings I am certain was brewed and distilled for personal use, and shared in the spirit of friendship. No I don't remember who had what.
