So, been waiting 6 weeks for my bike and finally get it here last friday... jump on... take off with a massive grin.

First stop at lights, idle.... 2k RPM. ****.

Bike has no tuneboy, I have very little mechanical skills, the only Triumph dealer around here i've heard are dodgy. Options? Am i better of buying a tuneboy (if so, wheres cheap in the US?) or get the TPS replaced or??

Cheers.

Tuneboy is Australian mate;)
Ride it a bit more and see if it settles down,my old bike done it maybe twice in 20,000ks

Welcome to the site from Molino, FL and Afghanistan. Was this bike brand new? If it is I would take it back to the "dodgy" dealer or wherever you picked it up from and have them go over it and make sure it is set up right.

If it was "pre-owned"...I don't know what to tell you other than what the Punisher said...ride it out and hope it was just a "hiccup" or something.

Good luck,

Dennis

Tune Boy is the way to go it is not only good for Map modifications but you would not believe the money you will save by not having to pay a dealer anything. Oh and as Molino man stated if you got it from a dealer take it back and have then straighten it out for you Dodgey or not this is not a hard thing to take care of.

You might try the 12 minute tune to see if resetting the ECU to factory defaults gets rid of the problem. Simply start her up and do not touch the throttle for 12 minutes... it might help. If the problem goes away for a bit, but reappers, it more than likely is a bad TPS.

Bummer...hate it when junk like that happens...fortunately, I suspect its a correctable issue. Meanwhile...Welcome aboard!

sure i read it on this forum, but i think it said wipe the crank sensor to get rid of sludge and debri. only a 2 minute job. i'am sure someone will correct me if its wrong. oh and welcome mate hope the bad start has'nt put you off.

My bike was doing the same thing at one time.. I simply backed off the adjustment nut on the idle stepper motor until it was idling about 850 RPM.. It's been that way for a long, long time now, I would guess close to 20,000 miles since I did it. I hope to pass 60,000 miles before the end of the year!.. :)

Oh.. I did this after I took it to the dealer and they couldn't duplicate the problem. Funny thing is it was idling at 3,000 RPM when I left there.. I rode it 59 miles like that.. luckily they were all highway.. lol Pulled right in the garage and figured I couldn't make it any worse by messing with the stepper motor.. been idling great ever since!.. :)

Actually you start the bike up without touching the throttle and after the fans kicks on the first time you then start the 12 minute timer. After 12 minutes shut her down or go for a ride which ever you preferr

I also agree it would be a good idea to clean the crank angle sensor. Is it a new bike or a used one?

To bad you did not have Tune Boy you could see what the TPS voltage is and the idle stepper motor voltage. maybe the idle stepper motor linkage is just got some **** on it and copious amounts of Wd40 is needed to clean and lubricat it. I am sur eit is fixable the point is realy the dealer should have done that prior to selling it to you.
