To switch or not to switch .....that is the question! Do I connect it to a switchable circuit (i.e. one that powers up when the key is turned on and no power when turned off)?
I will be receiving a PC8 form eastern beaver shortly and would like to know what you fellas think. The PC8 has 2 non switchable and 6 switchable fused connections.

Any pros and cons to switching the GIpro on and off?

Any thoughts?

Thanks \

Gipro connection

I would think you would want it on a switchable circuit.
If you put it on a non switchable circuit it would be on all the time draining your battery because of the lighted display.

Haha!!! Duh......guess I had a lapse. Now didnt someone post about it taking a long time for the unit to power down after the key was off.....or maybe it was because of the way they had it wired.

STOP RIGHT THERE!!!!

The GiPro has to be wired just like the instructions say, it does not have a memory with an internal battery backup and if disconnected from the battery it has to be reset.
It is on all the time, the display illuminates with the ignition. The battery draw is miniscule and less than the ECM.

For anyone who has one and has to unhook the battery for whatever reason, remember that the GiPro has to have the preferred setting reset. It goes back to the first setting with a power interruption. It will go back to the factory setting of power reduction in 1-3 gears.

.... In fact, if you *****around with the battery for whatever reason, it's a good idea to check your Pro to make sure it is on the proper setting. Just loosening the battery terminals can reset the memory.

My recollection is that the instructions say to connect it to a switched circuit, otherwise the display would be on all the time. I also think think that say that if the battery is subsequently disconnected you MAY need to reset it. On both occassions I've disconnected mine I didn't have to reset it.

I never have to reset my gipro when I disconnect the battery. It always goes back to the last setting when reconnected.

It has been blacking out a lot lately and it's pissing me off. When I disconnect / reconnect it from the battery it resets to it's last programed settings. Hell I was thinking about putting it on a switch for a quicker reset when it blacks out.

The lead that goes to the gear position sensor IS the switched lead.
The lead that goes to the battery IS the power and memory.

It's blacking out due to the GPS failing, the gear position sensor is the circuit that controls the illumination. Should the GPS stick between gears or not make contact every time, the display will go out.
The display turns on with the ignition switch because the GPS is getting power with the switch. The display will go out if the GPS is not registering a gear.
Those who have one should review your installation instructions, you will see that the power lead must be connected to the battery or a constant on. I'm not ****tin' you guys ... Putting the power lead on a switched circuit will not work.
I try hard not to sound like an A-Hole on the GiPro topic, but you guys scare me sometimes making assumptions about it.
