hello all ,is this a common problem 1st gear fine in to second clonk ,in to third ,less clonk into 4 and 5 th fine clucth ajusted to 3 mm ,bike only done 6500 from new whats up ,?p s its a 05 model!

Believe it is common, mine does that, particularly if the revs aren't perfectly matched. Believe the gearboxes are just like that due to being rather substantially built to deal with the torque.

Found that the oil used can make a marked difference to it, mine seems to prefer Mobil1 fully synthetic stuff.

Since yours is a 05 and has the old style clutch lifter piece I would recomend you try 2 mm free play and see if it helps free up the fibers a little bit more. Especially if it has not had the updated second gear. It might bebdraging a little more do to the extra dogs.I am not sure what oil you using but agree with the above statement. What oil change interval and brand are you using?

The tips given will be helpful, but overall this a big clunky transmission fit for a big engine....so it makes clunky noises.

My 05 goes clunk-a-de clunk to and the older the better oil the louder the clunk. Just be because sure you use the good stuff.

I agree 100% with this, my R3T is newer but was clunking fairly good until I checked the free play at the clutch lever. It was outside the recommended adjustment specs by more than I would like to say. :(

Now when I set my free play at the clutch lever I use my micrometer to get it to factory specs, which is really hard to eyeball if you aren't used to using metric guesstimates.

My freeplay is set by feel, though quite close to factory. My clunks are not bad, just what you expect moving big fat gears around.
