05 Triumph Rocket III
Hi All,

Ive had my 2005 Rocket for a few years now with no issues. I havent been able to ride it as much as id like but i went to fire it up a few weeks back and while riding it seemed to have a very slight pinging under throttle which i chocked up to bad gas from sitting over the winter. I burned a tank and put fresh fuel in. Fast forward a few weeks and i had to put the battery tender on it to get it fired up on tuesday, I took it for a shakedown ride for my riding licence test and i was feeling down on power ( I was struggling to keep up with a few aggressive harleys...). I was finding that anything over half throttle it was starting to surge/buck/miss. If i dropped a gear or two it was really struggling to build rpm, typically if i need to pass fast i drop to 3rd and it revs up very fast and my pass is done instantly. I felt like i was down 70hp but i was still able to cruise comfortably on the hwy. I had a tough time getting the bike started and it kept dying at idle. I decided it would be fine for my licence test as i would just be bumbling in town at 50kph and didn't need full power. But this morning it was very hard to start and it would fall on its face while revving even in N, i went down the block and i could barely get it up to 30kph anything more then idle it would sputter and fall on its face so i had to turn around and call an audible. Thankfully my dad lent me his bike and i passed the test so i finally have my full bike licence.

It seems like the TPS or stepper motor might be my issues from looking through some other threads, would that cause these issues? If anyone could shed some light on what might be the problem here or some first troubleshooting steps to take it would be greatly appreciated. Taking it to a shop is the last resort as I'm currently not able to afford shop rates

Check your tps with tuneecu I had a similar problem with my cutting off at idle and my tps was out of calibration
