A hex head bolt will be easier not to strip out, anyways.

When in doubt, try fastenall.
Chrome, stainless, anodized, etc.
Expensive but easy and fast.
 
First time i lifted my tank the washer slid away never to be seen again
 
Mine vibrated out after my 1st service. Couldn't be arsed to drive 30 miles to complain so used an M6 bolt with a bit of blue anti-vibe Loctite
 
If you go onto Bike Bandit under accessories (OEM) with your bike year and style you can get the exact replacement; But I simply use a 6mm/1" I believe that is the correct size, cost around $3.00 @ bike bandit. "Be Safe!
