Morning from Canada. Doing lots of research on my new to me 05 R3.Some talk about how the compression is relatively low on the 2300 engine. Would that lead me to believe high octane is not required on these years?

The 2.3L motor's compression ratio is around 8.5 to 1 (barely above a tractor engine). The longer burning high octane fuels will cause a loss of power since some of the fuel is still expanding on the exhaust stroke. The lower octane fuels burn fast enough to prevent that. The fuel system will likely be cleaner with higher octanes, but engine performance suffers.
