Fuel gauge Low fuel indicator

I got a 2005 Rocket III about a month ago, it went staight to the dealer they replaced the fuel pump and pressure regulator. It went in with the low fuel indicator working and the fuel gauge functioning, came out with the gauge non working and the low fuel light on all the time. The dealer does not want to help, they say it could work today, not tomorrow; they want to replace the float assembly. Any thoughts would help, thanks.

I took it apart yesterday and was looking around and I am not a mechanic, looking at the design; it did'nt look right. The float was installed backward toward the seat and not resting in the two raised holders, also the compression washer that holds tension on the end of the leveler arm was not push in tight. Problem fixed, gauge is off by 1/4; reads 3/4 when full, I may play with that someday when I feel like it.

I'm thinking the mechanic was out sick and they let his brother put it back together, and he does'nt know what he is doing.

My 2005 always told me I was out of gas before it was. I was to lazy to bother with it . I ride usually in groups of 3 too 4 . On trips we top off every 125 to 150 miles or when someone kidneys or ass gives out. I have heard that if you remove the tank,than the fuel sensor/filter/pump combo , you can bend the sensor float arm to compensate the reading. Time and a gasket I suppose. My wife says I not much help either best to keep them working as long as poss.

Your float is stuck down when the dealer put the fuel pump assembly back in. Mine is like that right now too. You might can get to it from the top of the tank and free it up.. I haven't worried about mine because I've always used the trip meter as my fuel gauge. The fuel light is awful annoying though!!

Dealer error they wouldn't take responsibility for.

Glad you got it sorted out.
Just bend the arm down about a quarter inch and she should start reading close to right.
Be sure to pull the float arm out first, dealer tech probably didn't
which caused you some grief.
Yea I'd agree, tech was a retard, or at the least inexperienced
with rocket fuel pump removal.

Thanks bro, last week I adjusted the gauge; pretty much like you described. I just bent the arm down that it rested slightly above the fuel pump mounting plate, low light indicator now comes on with 3 gallons left. It only took about 15 min., I'll adjust again in the future.

I know this is an older thread but I don't seem to be able to wrap my head around this one.
If the low fuel indicator light comes on early, shouldn't the arm be bent up rather than down?
Mine comes on at 110 miles, and the first time it happened I wasn't aware of this problem since I am new to the Rocket. I filled up and it took 3.5 US gallons. That means I had 3 gallons left in the tank just like you did. With 3.5 gallons left the light comes on because the floater sits way low in the tank. I believe that the arm should be bent up rather than down.
Is bending the arm up the same as bending the float down?
Any thoughts?
Was anybody successful in accessing and bending the arm from up top, in other words not having to remove the fuel pump assembly from the bottom?

Cal if you bend the float down it floats more keeping the low fuel switch from activating early. This problem occurs when you pull the pump to change the filter and end up bending the float rod when either taking the pump out or going back in. This is a touchy float rod and you just have to be careful when pulling it and when putting her back. You get pretty good at it after you muss it up a couple times (don't ask me how I know this)

My 2014 is very consistent with the light comming on with about 7.5 liters, about 2.5 gallons remaining. Around the 220 km mark

They must have fixed it on mine, 2014 R3R, the light comes on when it says 50 miles left. Using the GPS after 50 miles I fill up and put in 5.8 to 5.9 Gallons in.
