Dealer recommends 95 RON or above. Manual says 91 RON or above is fine.
Prefer to run just on normal 91 unleaded due to availability in Tas. Sure you guys have resolved this issue. Who can impart this wisdom on me or point me to the old thread?
Our giant pistons only run a 9 to 1 compressions ratio. 91 RON is just fine. If you get brave later on and add a turbo, supercharger, or performance pistons, cams etc, then you will have to start worrying about a higher RON rating..
Started out using 95 and even 98 when I first got it, then I read what a waste of money it was putting it thru my bike.
Changed back to 91 and couldn't even notice the difference.
Save yourself some money run the cheap stuff makes no difference most of the dealers have been around Harley-Davidson too long they don't like the cheap stuff
run what the manual states no sense wasting money burning something it is not timed for. anything lower and she will ignite to early and burn out to quick might not be a big loss in power but why pound the crank with little detonations you can't hear. Anything higher octane will not be ignited fast enough and not reach full burn in time to improve anything except lack of detonation worries. Detonation can occur in NA motrs as well they are just not as pronounced and not as hard as forced air or NOS.
