I had a different thought in mind when I read your title; I'm glad this didn't end in blood shed... and a little disappointed.

Get them ultrasonically cleaned. Doesn't cost much - less than $50 from memory. Maybe $30?? I did mine just before I sold the bike and it never ran so good. That and new plug leads (but they're a whole other story).

I think I still have the original boots, you can have one for free, not sure how long it would take to get there, though.
 
I am glad you found it mate, it should be a lot better to ride once you get that sorted!
