Fork Springs-Hagon vs Prog. Suspension

Oh ya a little observation on thicker fork oil, a few guys have mentioned going to a heavier oil, then going back as the stiff viscosity just made the frount end feel wooden/wierd. Cheap to try of course, but if your spring is shot, all your doing is trying to mask it, not dealing with the problem at source.

..I went with progressives with the stock oil weight....5?....think I'll replace it with 10 or 15 as doesn't seem to be doing it's job for my 220lb. self..

at 300# I get a nice, pleasant wallow from my stock set-up..... sorta like a boat on a lake, or driving an old continental.......

I jsut looked at their fork springs.I notice they dont have the tighter winings at one end like Hagon & Prog. Susp. do? :?:

The YSS are quite expensive for what you get, this was according to one of the shockie re-builder guys I was talking to in Brissy, he advised not to buy the YSS as the quality left a bit to be desired, he did advise that the Ikons were better in their quality but if I wanted better to go with Wilbers, Progressives or Hagons. I ended up buying the Progressives from the US and couldn't be happier, no more being thrown about from the quality rural Queensland roads we have around here.

When I spoke to YSS on the phone my bull**** meter bounced a few times.
It seems you concur with the BS meter

Roads can be bad around here too,its the pot holes that are the spinebusters. :x

For those that MIGHT not know, the extra tighter windings at the bottom are what make the spring 'Progressive'. A simple spring obeys Hooks law extension is directly proportional to load ( or compression in this case)
A progressive spring, like were talking about, gets dramatically stiffer as the extra coils compress. This allows the bike to float easily over mild bumps, but resist harder bumps & heavy breaking without running out of
travel & control 8)

The oil viscosity & valving determines how much damping there is to spring movement.Too much damping is bad, as the wheel will start to bounce, unable to react to the road quickly enough. Too little & it will feel like a pogo stick.
