Heading to the garage this morning to finish the other leg on my seal replacement job. One done so far with homemade tools and some swearing. (I did buy an adjustable seal driver, since sizes can be changed I can see it getting used in the future.) In reference to compressing the spring, the shim to hold in place was constructed out of a piece of aluminum with the slot cut to the right size. Big S hooks and a ratchet strap will do the job of holding the spring down to insert the shim for securing the top nut. As far as fork seal replacement, the R3 is certainly not the easiest one out there, but can be knocked out by a novice with a little patience and following the manual procedure.
