Well, I just returned from buttoning my Rocket back up. I tried to mount a set of the Rivco risers but I didn't like the way the throttle cables were strained; even after routing them correctly behind the top triple tree as the instructions indicated. I have the Classic with the handlebars which are more swept back than a standard Rocket; so I believe that trying to mount a set of risers such as the ones Rivco offers is not a real good fit (for the Classic).

Anyway....

While I was reassembling my Rocket, I noticed something not good. My throttle has always had firm resistance to it when twisting it. While getting ready to put my bearclaw cover back on, I noticed that the bracket (that accepts the front bolt) for the bearclaw cover was pushing and severely indenting one of my throttle cables at the carburetor side. I gently bent the indented throttle cable sleeve away from the bracket so that it wouldn't continue to indent it; and 'lo and behold; my throttle grip now twists with much less resistance.

I am hoping that the throttle cable that was indented by the bearclaw bracket is not damaged. If you all have a very firm throttle twist, I would advise you to check for this particular problem.

Now I must go take a shower, I look like the tin man with all of this anti seize on me....

Kindest regards,

It sounds to me like you have the classic pull back bars that came out in 07. I bought the kit and install them on my bike without having to add the longer cables I suspect when I add the Rivco Riser's I will have to add the longer cables.

Yep, that was the problem. Already have "pull backs" installed on the Classic. So I am going to send the Rivco risers back, probably will have to eat a re-stock fee. I don't recall them disclosing the fact that the cables are not sufficient to use their riser with, if you have the "pull backs" and the Classic Rocket. It may be my saving grace. We'll see.

Too bad though, I like to get the handlebars back just a little bit more.....

I had been toying with the idea of ordering longer brake/control lines; but I think I am just going to shelve the idea for now. I want to get some riding in; don't want to be turning wrenches in the fall; when I can do "modifications" in winter (although I do ride in every winter anyway) - (long as ther ain't snow or precipitation about)

Maybe I'll keep 'em. Maybe I'll send 'em back. Now I don't know..... :?

FYI, Will, you don't have carbs. Those are throttle bodies.

Is your bike a 2007 Classic? If so the Rivco's will work, perhaps you need to reroute cables? My bike is 2007 Classic and the Rivco's work fine.

It's a 2008 Classic with the pull back bars. Throttle cables are too short even with re-routing them behind the triple tree's as suggested in Rivco's instructions.....

If I had to guess, I'd say that whoever put your bars on didn't put on the cable that were supposed to come with them.

The standard and classic bars each have different cable sets.
