Welcome James. You didn't test ride a Rocket nor even hear one running??
There are mods you can do and void your warranty. Triumph Of Road (TOR) exhaust for a start. Not the ultimate performance system but excellent for the money and will give you a much better sound than stock without being overly loud. Changing the intake to something like a Ramair shouldn't matter either. Just check with your dealer before doing anything too radical.
I been after after this bike for about 3 years and I finally pulled the trigger on it this year. I have never been on a test ride or even heard one start up.
I I have however sat on them multiple times LOL
so are the TOR pipes the Triumph branded pipes that are sold on their website?
I meant to say TORs won't void your warranty. They are the pipes available through Triumph. I had the 3 pipe TORs on my bike and found them perfectly fine. Not everyone liked the sound - a little raspy perhaps, but with the Staintune cat bypass they sounded pretty much like an old Jaguar sports car I reckon. Anyway, I liked them and they were pretty cheap from memory. The 2 pipe TORs for the Touring and Roadster have a deeper sound in any case.

The dealer will load a TORs tune, which is adequate without any other mods. It will however be too lean if you do anything else to the bike eg intake, at which point you'll need to consider things like PowerCammander, Dobeck, TuneECU etc, but once you start going down that route you need to be aware of/check on possible warranty impact.
