..drive train lash??????..

..ease out on the clutch..bike just barely moving along in 1st gear.clunk, clunk, clunk, clunk,..sounds ugly..and scary..goes away as I speed up during normal takeoff..transmission??..final drive??..what the hell is that??..anybody else have it???..

I have..

I've had that since day one with 0 miles on my bike. Just had to get use to the play in the final drive. Took my motorcycle safety course to get a Navy Base pass on my R3, lots of clunking going on but no problems...

My solution? Give it the gas !!!

But really, I hope yours is no more of a problem than mine. I test rode a couple other R3's and they were all the same. Not designed to go slow.

Mine has clunked in every gear if trying to just idle around.
Now mine has never made the clunk-clunk sound if the clutch was pulled in or in the process of letting the clutch out. Only does it while moving very slow, just trying to idle around.

Mine does it too.
But so does the Valkyrie, I guess it's just a big bike thing! :lol:

Some clunking is normal especially when engaging your gears slowly. A lot of clunk all the time isn't normal so that should be looked at.

That noise freaked me out a little when I first got the R3, but after practicing a lot of slow speed stuff (Ride Like A Pro) using the rear brake, I almost never hear it anymore. With some rear brake added, it pretty much always keeps slow, steady power applied, so the final drive never gets the chance to jerk back and forth at parking lot speeds.
