Doing my own oil change


All sounds but one question: What does 'store your bike on' mean?

I am using the Castrol 10/40 and a Mobile filter. I suppose next time I should get those washers as you mentioned, didn't have them this last time but didn't need them. And I am sure that stand would have made things much easier then laying on the blacktop in a parking space. My drip pan barely fits under the beast when it on the kick stand.
 
I've used both Castrol and Mobil 1 and know for a fact my bikes gear box likes Mobil 1 better. I noticed the difference right off the bat after the oil change to Mobil 1.
 


"Store" not riding for a while in mid winter! I'm not a die hard rider like you. I work outside, the last thing I think about is riding after working outside all week!!

I use two drip pans and then do other misc maintance while it's draining.

If you get the stand you can change your bevel box oil.
Leave it on the side stand to drain and then put it on the flip stand to fill it.

Oh you will need a piece of clear tubing to fill the bevel box back up.
 
I have been changing my own oil and filter as well. I drive my front and rear tires up on 2 X 8 boards and then use a double stacked 2 X 8 board under the side stand. I bought my six pack of Castrol 10-50 RS 4T oil off Amazon for around $5 less per quart than the dealer charges including shipping. Still using the Triumph filter and washers I order from Hermy's Triumph. I have a quality Craftman Inch Pound-Neuton's click style torque wrench, so I am good to go. It saves me a trip to the dealer and in my own mind I know the job was done right. I have been unable to find any thing other than the 10-40 oil locally so I've been sticking with the 10-50 as recommended by Triumph. I may see if I can find the 10-50 in Mobil 1 for the next oil change. Does it really make the transmission shift smoother?? Actually I can't find Mobile1 in 10-50....it appears they only make 10-40.

I kind of agree....what the heck, you're driving around setting on a car engine for pete sake. They use to recommend 10-40 and then it's my understanding that they switched it to the 10-50 you are now supposed to use. I can buy the 10-40 Mobile1 RS 4T at the local Walmart. You didn't comment on the transmission...do you really think it's smoother?
 

When I did my output shaft bearing I had the opportunity to try Castrol and Mobile 1 back to back. Shifted WAY smoother with Mobile 1.
