Do any of you forget to shift into 5th gear at times on the highway?

I rode the ROCKET this morning on my usual Breakfast ride and put 186 miles round trip on her, after consuming enough high calorie stuff at the Buffet to kill the average man!

I rode from Carthage, Missouri to Marionville to Crain and skirted the western edge of Branson, then went west into the Mark Twain National forest and past Roaring river state park, through Cassville and north back to home base.

it started out at 75 degrees and with the Humidity it actually felt cool, however it was 90 when I got home with a 100 degree heat index.

I noticed today that there were long stretches of highway where I was cruising along at 55-65 mph and I glanced down at the gear indicator gage and I'd been in 4th gear for quite a few miles. This sure isn't the first time I've done this of course but it seemed like today, I did it a lot. I guess big bikes don't easily give away the fact that they are in a lower gear, since the rpm's are so low anyway.

I can't say that i ride around in 4th gear too much..Keep her in 5th.

I've done it a few times, mostly when getting on the freeway at 4am on the way to work

I did that on my past 2012 Goldwing, always looking for the elusive 6th gear. On my past supersport bikes with 6 speeds, I found myself running along in 5th a lot.

I bought a new Subaru in 1979 as a work car and I had a new job site to go to, about 125 miles away and took the Interstate and when I was almost there, I looked at the gas gage and wondered why it was down more than usual and by divine insight, I realized that I'd never shifted into 5th gear! The Subbie was my first non- 4 speed car.

Can't say I forget, but 55-60 should be 4th gear
That's too slow for 5th.
Granted I'm used to 60mph (100km) being the speed limit on back roads in Germany but I usually stayed in 3d gear at that speed and really only shifted to 4th above 60. 5th was for 80 and above cruising.

Can you not tell by the noise the bike makes that it needs to be kicked up a gear? the bike will run fine all day long in 5th gear at 50/60mph I do not have the gear indicator but a wee look at the rev counter will tell you what gear you are in plus I have never really had a problem counting up to five.
