So as some of you may know, I wrecked my baby last year, resulting in having to do a complete engine rebuild, which went amazingly.

Now, I'm deployed again... but when I get back next year I'll have a bit of money burning a hole in my pocket, and I still have some cosmetic issues to fix; my tank is messed up on the left pretty bad, and so is my bearclaw thing. I might just cut the bearclaw to expose my filters better, but the tank needs to be repaired or replaced. I've never repaired a gas tank before... is it even worth trying, or should I buy a new tank?

Also, my left side Jardine pipe is screwed. Is it possible to buy just the left pipe, or should I start looking into another system, like Rebands? As always you guys' advice is cherished.
 
 
Your experience may be different but I found good, used tanks difficult to find. Used 4-500 and new 1k was best I could find.
 
I have a neighbor that would cut the bottom out of the tank and repair it perfectly. Then put the bottom back in the tank. The man is a self tought genius. The only downfall is the amount of hours it takes to do something like that. Its ok when he is restoring a bike for himself but you couldn't afford to pay him to do repairs.
 
If you've got time to search 2nd hand I'd do that, but likes been said already good luck finding one - I don't recall ever seeing a wreck that didn't have tank damage.
 
I've got a spare tank sitting under the house. Bit rough but if you can't find a perfect one let me know .. it doesn't owe me a lot of money.
 
The tank isn't terribly damaged. The left side where the badge was is scraped and dented. The damage is maybe 7 inches long and 3 inches wide... but it's an eyesore. And there's a nickle sized chip out of it a bit closer to where my knee sits. I don't have a good picture other than this one. You can see the damaged pipe as well.
