Never heard this before. I buy a brand new R3T in August and when I go to take the bike to work Monday morning and nothing. The lights barley come on, no horn or turn signals. They come and get the bike and they call me to say it is the battery and the factory warranty is only good for only 6 months and I have to pay for the battery. The battery is only 9 months old and yes I kept it on the charger all winter. In fact I've been riding it since March. I tell them sorry but I have no faith in Triumph and I'm going back to a BMW.

You have no faith in Triumph because of a battery? That seems a bit harsh. If the dealer won't take care of it, call Triumph. I'd bet money they'll take care of it. That, of course, assumes you didn't do anything stupid that would kill the battery.

What would you consider stupid? I did the usual maintenance like I did on all my other bikes for the past 30 years of riding.

The battery is made by Yuasa, not Triumph. I've had BMW batteries fail, the Yuasa in my R3T is going strong after 2 years.

I suspect Daryl is talking about the type of charger. Something like a Battery Tender Plus should keep that battery strong without issue. If that's what you're using and not a charger meant for a car battery I'd suspect you just happened to get a bad one from Yuasa.

**** happens.

I wouldn't let a dead battery turn you away from Triumph. Spend the 80 bucks and enjoy riding. My original battery in my new triumph only lasted a few months (winter). Replaced it with a better quality battery and no problems.

Some times you get a bad battery. Sometimes you but new tires that pull left or right.
Generally Yuasa batteries are pretty good. Mine survived 5 years. Just bad luck.

If the next one dies quick then you probably have a problem.

Mine was 3 months old when I realized it just wasn't good enough to start a 2300cc engine reliably .... thats why I went to the Odyssey PC625. It hasn't missed a beat since Getting the right charger for the battery.

dead battery woes

60 000 miles no battery problems for me the terminals need to peroidicly cleaned to allow a proper charge dispite tender use or not. absolutely love my r3 :D:D:D

Yes, that's what I'm talking about. Not everyone knows there's a difference between a charger and tender.
