Ride
2023 Triumph Rocket 3 GT
I hosted an impromptu group ride in Fort Worth, TX today as temps are finally starting to cool down here a little (95 degree high today). I’m one of the admins for a Facebook Triumph group for local riders, and we are over 200 strong, yet only 4 showed up today including myself. Pretty par for the course, actually. Anyway, the ride itself was just under 160 miles and an additional 20 for me to get to and from start/ end. We stopped at a moto themed coffee roaster in Pilot Point, Texas followed by some scenic backroads up into Gainesville, and through Muenster and St Jo, before heading back South to home. Overall it wasn’t a bad ride apart from some slow cagers bottling up the 2 lane road in parts… but all in all a good day. Along for the ride were a Speed Twin 1200, a Tiger 900 GT, and another Rocket3 GT (Storm).

Sorry I missed your ride, but I'll be sure to catch one sooner or later. I'm know Texas-Hooligan is looking forward to cooler temps as well (we watched the game together).

Totally agree, with larger groups, the "hearding" gets tedious - to the point I don't want to ride with more than half a dozen or so ! 😟
Same. Everyone has different riding styles and preferences and it is hard to keep everyone happy. With larger rides I usually set a few ground rules (following distance, speed, passing other riders, etc) to keep everyone safe and tame. When there are 6 or less I usually omit that part because we are all adults and usually those stay together more, and there’s less desire to pass because of speed or following distance. Smaller groups are just easier to manage. I’m always concerned about everyone having a good time, so planning adequate breaks, learning speed comfort, riding ability, etc. can be a challenge. But I found out yesterday that even in smaller groups people can do things to upset other riders. I need to probably have ground rules set for all sizes.

No worries at all! It’s still a bit warm, and it was a longer ride. Not everyone can do Sundays, but it is often the only day I can go, especially early fall when my son usually has soccer commitments on Saturday mornings. Cooler weather in the way and I am sure we will find some time for another ride!

We ride small groups like that 3-5 riders. Doing that is a lot of fun too. We had a group of over 125 in the 20teens. We met twice a month. one for 200-300 mile ride and one for breakfast and 100 mile ride. The brkfst/100 mile ride would get up to 25-30 for the meal and maybe 12 - 15 for the ride. The long ride often only saw 5-8 for it. After we had a rider accident that ended in his death, the numbers just kept getting smaller and smaller.
