I installed an electronic cruise control on my R3T about a year ago and it is as good as it gets. I got it from www.mccruise.com and installed it myself. I must say that there instructions are the best I have ever seen with any accessories I have put on. However I wouldn’t try to do the installation in less you have pretty good idea of how things work and are good working with the tools. It cost about a $1000.00 bucks but when you get done it works just the one in your car. However if you are a great mechanic there is an old thread on the forum which tells you how to install one that you could buy at an auto store and they seemed to make it work just find at a lot lower cost. I just figured that I wanted a kit that all the wiring and other stuff was already worked out if you know what I mean. Trapper
There are a couple of folks that have been working on installing the Rostra fully electronic cruise control (no vacuum system like the mccruise or older Audiovox unit). The challenge has been picking up the speed sensor signal (VSS). One captain resorted to installing the speed pickup and bypassing the VSS.
Yogi1 is working on his now. The other that completed the install was Markn2147d.
Note: the Rostra unit is also sold by Dakota Digital and is also resold under the Audiovox name but with a different part number from the old vacuum system.
I've got the Audiovox vacuum unit on mine and love it. PO had installed it, so can't help you with that, but here's a pic of where the vacuum is, right behind the left side cover...

Sure thing. I've got the switch right next to the drinkholder, of course. It really functions well-holds the speed right where I set it, and within an mph or so on the hillier terrain, just like a cage cc. I guess that's because it's really a modified cage cc. Beats the hell out of the throttlemeister I've had on other bikes, that's for sure.
Sure does look exactly like it, except I don't see the handlebar mount. I'm guessing the PO who installed this fabbed it out of aluminum billet. I'm not a machinist, but it doesn't look like too big of a job. Looked everywhere and can't find a vacuum storage tank. Like I said, works great, and sure is a cheaper alternative to the electronic ones.
Notice the picture below had the vacuum storage tank along with the control unit noticed it was extremely cheaper than the electronic does it work – well that would be extremely nice on the interstate especially pulling my bunkhouse camper it would sure take the strain off the wrist
