Didn't some one mention some time back that the Electronics/ECU/Mapping won't work correctly with out this switch in play ?

I remember thinking I'll just dump that switch, but read that I couldn't for what ever reason.
Something to do with when the clutch is pulled and the starter hit that the ignition was retarded for starting ?
I don't remember exactly.

yes i remember that it cause a running problem and he may have posted it ran better when he reinstalled the switch.

Do you know by any chance where to get it because i tried few places and no joy
Would the switch from other models fit?
Thanks

they used to have a map so u could find a donor bike to get the switch.:laugh::roll::roll::roll:
i would think that (temporary) u could get a switch that is normally open and when u need to start press the switch.(example starter switch)
i think that would satisfy the needs of the ecu.
i do not know where to get a switch.
someone might know.

I had a starter issue that I initially thought was the Clutch switch as I would pull the clutch in and out several times then it would fire up.
I pulled the unit apart, inside is just a sliding brass bar and a pair of contacts, I cleaned them and put it all back together with no avail :(

@R-III-R Turbo had an issue (can't remember what) with his switch, I sent him some drawings or photos of the inside, maybe he will get this note and respond with what I sent him.

Oh ! in the end it wasn't the switch, it was the starter relay under the R/H side cover that was the problem.

Just had a look through the wiring diagram (was for an older model) but cannot see any hard wire link between the clutch switch and the fuel gauge accessory plug other than the earth.

Also the clutch switch wires direct to the ECU so any issues are probably the ECU software. The bike looks at the clutch position when starting as it doesn't want you to do a number of things for obvious safety reasons, start in gear with clutch out, put bike in gear with side stand down etc, these types of things are part of a start sequence check that happen pretty quickly when you fire the bike up.

Think @Paul Bryant comments are probably correct as the bikes designed to start primarily in neutral and has an ignition map for this, but this is not always practical so the ECU may have a non adjustable ignition retard for start up, as I understand it has an additional fuel squirt, these things may slow the start.

The bike may be looking for a clutch in, clutch out signal also and if its bridged to a solid signal it may get confused, no proof of this just a theory but would fot most of your symptoms. Fix the switch I think.

Thanks a lot but what I cut off looked more like that just dont know if its going to fit rocket. Just cable is much longer- actually i dont even know how long it is and where it ends with the plug.

Why don't you do some surgery on your existing/old switch ?
You have nothing to loose.
Think about it like this, you have the brain power to dissect a Cat ... just take your time and apply the same logic to this in-animate object.
Believe me, there is nothing special inside this switch, just watch as you pull it apart, even do a drawing as to how it looks so you know how it goes back together.
Just one thing to note is which way the insulation components sit on the brass rod.

Take your time.

I tried. But this d a m n e d thing is stuck. I can't get it open.
I was advised to but the one from picture above and transplant the sensor itself to my existing wiring. Will it work?
