I need to change my oil tank as the chrome is lifting. Is it a straightforward process?
Thanks
Simon

might be the chrome on the badge? if so they're replaceable. if the full thing is chrome then you'll have to drain the oil out of the oil tank via the sump plug (there are 3 sump plugs, 1 is for the oil tank). then undo two very long bolts from above, these hold the oil tank down to the engine, means raising the fuel tank and i cant remember if the throttle bodies need to come off too to get access they probably do. once these 2 bolts are gone you should be able to pull it off, be careful now it can be a struggle and then sudden let go and you could dent it off the chassis or something above. best protect it with thick rags etc. there are 2 little cylinders that connect the oil tank to the engine, and have o-rings on each end. i have pics there if you need them so you picture it in your head before working on it

Yep it's the whole oil tank. Bit peedev to hear the throttle bodies need to come off!
Any idea which one is the oil tank sump plug!
Thanks

Also.......just noticed there is a late and early model of oil tank......anyone know what the differences are?
The later model is twice the price!

Simon,

I've had luck pulling the oil tank without removing the throttle bodies. I just loosen the hose clamps between the throttle bodies and the intake. This allows lifting the throttle bodies enough to get the oil tank out. Cuts down on time and the quantity of items to remove and reinstall. You just have to make sure the throttle bodies get seated and sealed back in place. The key is to not leave it disassembled very long so the rubber boots done lose their form.

When I changed the leaking o-rings it was less than an hour start to finish.
