Broken Connection in Ignition Switch

Thanks Nitebell. I'll look into it. The relo kit was installed 6 months ago and I haven't had a problem until now. My most recent mod was to install the Stebel Nautilus (sp?) air horn about 3 weeks ago. I ran the ground wire to the bare bolt on the underside of the regulator/rectifier just in front of the rear wheel. I assumed (and that might be my downfall) that the bare bolt was meant to be a ground as opposed to something painted. I could certainly use some insight if I've screwed up.

If it was me i would unsolder the yellow so i could get at the orange properly and solder them back on.

If the bike is under two years old, I would do the same.

I had this exact problem once, and Triumph gladly covered it. In the case of this customer was pretty perturbed that he was going to have to have two keys for the bike being triumph would only replace the ign switch, and not the complete key ( switch, gas cap, and seat latch) set . I wasn't the one who did the part request, so they might have had the person doing it had some foresight to request the set.

I was able to put the contact board from the new switch onto the old housing easily so he didn't have to mess with more then one key.

I'm concerned that Triumph may nix the warrenty claim since I have the relocation kit installed. Anyone else run into this?

They could, but if you a solid customer at the dealer, they could easily look past it being relocated. I would if you were my customer. :wink:

I'm catching a lot of grief from my older siblings, all of who ride H-Ds. Sister on a Sport Glide, her husband on an Ultra, Oldest Brother on an Electra Glide, and other Brother on a Road King.

First Response from each when I told them about the ignition switch was, "British Electrics! Enough said."

Had the same problem with mine too.I just resoldered the wires.

My switch went at about 10K miles...I now have 21K on it. They did it under waranty and it was "their" idea to replace tank and seat locks so I'd have only one key to operate everything. This was before my ignition relocate. Not sure what they would have done in that case.

Mine did the same. I have the relocation kit on mine. It definitely got worse as the temperature increased. Hot air from the motor blows directly on the ign switch. That made the location of the switch suspect to me. I will resolder and somehow shield the ign switch.
