No it was not a dud .they have stopped making them for the r3 .I originally watched a video on the cruiser customizing site .I then ordered the unit I saw in the video with the same part number. When the part arrived and didn't fit .I then informed cruise customizing and they informed me that there supplier of the brakeaway unit had not told them that they had stopped making the unit for the r3.don't worry I was confused for a while also. The same part number on two different cruise control units.
So for me personally, it's either stick with the throttle rocker (which does offload the hand very well and makes even long runs quite doable) or a full-on McCruise real cruise control. Anything friction-based that doesn't disengage when you brake is just right out, the risk increase may be small but it's a risk increase, and even people here have had close calls.

If you reduce the diameter of the grip flange to less than 1.900" the 7CP01 will fit the Rocket III (Touring model ONLY) with no issues. Any grip that allows the cruise control to fit all the way over the flange will work fine.

So looks like us touring lads FINALLY have something to call our own Hahahaha
Yep, if you can swing it, the kit offered by McCruise is fitted to your model, and does everything one would expect of a modern, push-button cruise control.

Good luck fitting it .i have kuryakyn grips on my r3standard .i had no trouble fitting it over the grip. It was just the rest of the unit I hope I'm wrong but I doubt it. If it does work could you please put a photo up. I'm pretty sure the salesman has no idea what he's talking about
