took my r3t to the shop thursday had my appointment for the 10000 miles service for today and i have had a oil leak for a short time figured it was coming from the seals under the oil tank the shop called me today to tell me my oil leak was from the head gasket being blown so now have to wait for the parts to come in

I had the same thing happen back in April, I think. I noticed a very, very small oil patch (around the size of a penny) on my garage floor. I traced it up the rear of the engine, but couldn't make out for sure where it was coming from due to the engine being black and couldn't see the shiney oil trail once I got up a ways. Took it to the dealer and same thing as you; had to wait on parts.

You guys deffinately don't go to my dealer, they would have tried to tell me it was normal. I can hear them now, "Kelly, that is seepage ... it is totally normal, in fact they designed it that way so that when the leak trail reached the starter it would be due for the bushings to be lubed anyway. Can we interest you in a new leather jacket?".

Did you buy the jacket?:D

When I took my '06 Classic in for the upgrade kit, I also have a head gasket leak. It was on the rear of the head, just a little bit of oil weeping.

How common is this problem and on what model years is the head gasket failure showing up?
