I'm riding a 2005 with jardines, stock air filter, TOR tune, secondaries removed....... and I can't believe the amount of heat that comes off of this thing........ I spent a few days on a loaner harley while my bike was broken ( TPS ) and even that put off less heat sitting in traffic.......

is it just the big radiator? the pipes? ..... it does pop a little on decel, maybe lean running?

I know that the first response will be to TuneBoy it, but I have no plans to modify the bike further and really don't want to spend the $400 just to MAYBE fix the problem......

Has anyone tried exhaust wrap? ceramic coating?

I've wrapped my Preds, I think canecorso has wrapped his exhaust as well but I don't know which he has.

Just had new headers/collecor box custom made & I've gone for triple ceramic coating & heat shields.. Can't tell you what its like yet, the project is still ongoing!
Not suprised Jars are hot tho, there's no shields on them ?

I have ceramic coated Preds, inside & out but they still chuck out too much heat.

Got Travelguy to make me some heatshields - still way too hot.

Have fitted heat reflecting material to the back of the heatshields - no effect whatsoever.

Next step is to wrap the headers.

..yep..it's a hot mo fo for sho'..I've currently got the heat shields off me preds..it ain't no hotter or less hot with 'em on or off..but ya got to figure this motor is about three times the mass of a V twin, with about 2 or more gallons of hot coolant and oil circulating through it..and all of it getting blown back on ya when the fan kicks on..stay out of slow moving traffic (yeah, right)..keep your leg away from the exhaust at red lights, and unless that overheating light comes on......................fuggetaboutit ..

I have Jardines and they dont run that hot. The header is already ceramic coated on them from the factory...... though it's probably not the best coating out there. Jet-hot has several different types of coatings you can get if you wanna have them redone. I believe it is the tune you are running. You are running to lean IMHO. I had the same problem till I got the PC3 and the correct tune installed. Good luck............

Certainly a possibility, esp after hearing reports on the forum of peeps with standard tunes making the headers glow orange hot!! :eek3:
What colour is your tail pipe soot? too rich gives you heavy deposits of rich wet black soot, too lean = light deposits of a brownish colour.Get it right, & expect to see light deposits of black soot tinted silvery greyish.

I'm still planning on sewing oven mittens on the inner thigh of my jeans so I can ride in summer :tumble:

I wouldnt go by what the end of your exhaust looks like..... too many factors can change the look that far out. Mine has been dyno tuned and is still somewhat black at the ends. You can try to do a plug chop if you have the time and patience but I would not because if you dont know exactly what you are looking for then you can get in trouble doing that also. Todays fuels and additives in the fuel will mislead you drasticly. I hate to say it but you really just need to get it dyno tuned to be completely correct...... you can get somewhat close w/ just a PC3 and the tune Jardine gives out..... but it will not be to the full potential/performance the motor can produce..... but it is close enough that no real damage can be done to the pistons and it will be alot cheaper going that route then a tuneboy and a dynotune. There are people here that have hooked up an AF gage to their exhaust and you could probably tune your own PC3/tuneboy that way if you know what you are doing...... but I have not researched that to give any info. to that...... maybe contact Hombre or some of the other "Techies" to see if it is possible and what the cost comparison would be.
