I see you can run either 10/40 or 15/50 in the Rocket. I made some power upgrades. You think 20/50 is ok or should stick with 15/50. And if so, who makes the best oil or any ideas? Mobil 1 4T, Redline, Amsoil, Motul, Belray, etc.

Do you live in a cold area? The first number in the weight is the oils viscosity at a cold or winter temperature hence the W in rating. The second number is the oil's viscosity at 100 degrees Celsius or 212 degrees F. The whole theory is to prevent an engine from being dry run while the oil heats up and becomes more viscous so it can flow. Sometimes there is not a whole lot of difference between grades say 15 or 20, for example. The rate of flow is measured through a viscometer per unit of time to determine weight. So an oil that may be a high 15 rating could be close to an oil with a low 20 rating.

I would think an oil from any well established manufacturer should provide protection.

I have been using 300V 10 w/40 but I think that's a bit of an over kill, considering 300V is designed for high reving engins and after a bit of research was going to change to Motul 7100 20w/50 on the next change which is very soon.

Driven oil a company own by Joe gibs. But seriously until I went over board and I mean after the blow I ran the Mobile 1 4rt and never had a problem. The only thing I noticed on any oil is with the Rockets idle. Gracie has a pressure guage built into the cockpit along with temp gauge. I do not run idle rpm lower then 950 because oil pressure drops down close to 10 psi. Not good in my opinion. I like 895 to 1000 rpm idle. the bike is such a big stroker it does not sound like a high rpm like on the Jap bikes. Triumph uses the looses bearings If I ever open mine up I will decrease the clearance and run a thinner oil line LS30 by Joe Gibbs its more like a 5w30. I also used Turbo diesel oil as it has more anti wear inhibitors in it. and No friction modifiers. There are some oils with specific friction modifiers that do not hurt wet clutchs. This is what I use now to get the full range benifit. Add stiffer clutch springs and you will not have the problems with the clutch slippage that friction modifiers create.
Just my opinion take it for what it is. There will be people who do not agree but then there are people that think the Car tire is the best for a bike also. I do not agree with them but if its what they prefer then great have fun.

I use Mobil 1 5w 40 turbo diesel oil people much more knowledgeable than me a few on this site and others directed me to it.
A friend of mine uses it, he has a Carpenter 240 kit and its what they recomended:)
