If your running stock the standard is all you need. The higher octane gives better resistance to detonation, someting we don't have to worry about with low compression engines. Now put a supercharger, turbo charger, or high compression pistons then you will need the higher octane.

I'm sorry ... we weren't properly introduced, welcome to the site.
Now what were you saying again?... yes, Lester is right, I don't follow what your "but" is saying though. Lester was stating that super chargers, turbos etc. raise compression and would require higher octane fuel to stem any resulting pre-detonation. What do you mean it "probably won't burn all the way" and could "foul the plugs"?

My information about octane comes from Aircraft mechanics school. They brought it a guest speaker, some oil industry know it all. Any way Doc. Brown said that octane was only resistance to detonation and had no relation to the energy in btu's contained in the fuel. He went on to say that if you run a higher octane than required you would foul the plugs. This was due to lead. Aviation gas even 100 low lead contains a fair amount of lead modern automotive gasoline does not contain lead not to say it does not contain other octane boosters that may or may not foul the plugs. Powertrip has stated that using premium results in a couple of percent loose of power at low power settings and a couple percent gain at high power settings. others on this forum have stated that there are run ability problem associated with running premium gas. I just run the cheap stuff or maybe mid-grade if I'm in the mood that day.
