Beating the oil horse yet again

Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel 5w 40 (full synthetic) available at walmart 26.00 per gallon, awesome oil, I use this in my Rocket and my Truck. I use to run rotella 5w 40 synthetic in my truck, when I switched to the mobil 1 as soon as I started the engine after the oil change I immediately notice the reduction in noise! I think Carpenter Racing recommends this Mobil 1 oil also! ;)

You use Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel 5w 40 (full synthetic) in your Rocket?
I was afraid it did not have the proper additives for the clutches and would create transmission slipping or problems.

I ran the 10-40 4T Mob. oil once....Where I live it gets fairly cold in winter and dang hot in summer

I noticed that in hot weather the engine made more noise than with the 20-50.

One day about 2 yrs ago I was in one of my rare moods. It was dead of summer...apx 100*F + day and for about 2 hrs I was flogging the hell out of the Ol'Girl.

I pulled into a large boat ramp at the lake and slowly cruised around when my oil light came on..I stopped in the shade shut it off an checked the oil level....The oil was so thin...it was like water....I could barely see the oil on the dip stick

Well being me I stuck my finger down into the tank and...it did not take long to check the oil level.......and Yes it was full.. DO NOT Check Hot Oil with Finger!!!!

I will not run 10-40 oil again....

So next time I get in my mood and run the Ol'Girl hard again...I think I will grab each header to check if the tempatures are the same on all 3 headers..

I have never been known as the sharpest marble in the bag...

why do u not use ur finger to check hot oil :confused::eek::D

Turbo diesel oils have extra anti wear inhibitors great for the engine, as for friction modifiers, if you put heavier cltch springs in you will not have to worry about them. If you use exspensive oils like Joe Gibbs Driven oil they make a HD 15W50 synthetic with friction modifiers in it that do not effect wet clutches and have extra antiwear inhibitors. The oil is actually for Harley race bikes with wet clutches.

If the oil says "energy conserving" on the label then it will have friction modifiers and likely not the best for motorcycle wet clutches. I have never seen an "energy conserving" label on any oil with a viscosity higher than 10w/30.

TO is correct on the energy conserving label oil having the additive in it, I read that in a MC Mag a few years ago! also a lighter viscosity oil will have less parasitic drag on the engine.
