Some dude told me a good trick, quite a few years ago,
before battery tenders came out. He hooked up his
battery charger to the bike and pluged it in to where
the light bulb goes in his garage door opener. That
way it only charged for a few miniutes, every time
he opened the garage door.

battery performance

i own several bikes, but only two get used very much. i have a battery tender that cost me 29 bucks at harley. i also bought several pigtails which allows me to put that tender on one bike at a time. i'll use it for a couple of days on each bike, topping off the batteries for each one of the bikes. i do this during the summer months on the dormant bikes only to top off the batteries. for the bikes i ride i find that a nice long ride will charge up the system quite well. i even use the same battery tender on my corvette and other cars that i rarely use. the pigtails are pretty cheap, so i have one on just about everything including my farm tractor and riding lawn mower. i work that little battery tender a lot and it still does the job great.

I use an automatic charger that keeps a float charge on the battery over the winter. A Battery Tender is pretty much the same except you have the installed wiring.
