i DO NOT THINK YOU HAVE TO I keep mine connected and on a charger if you do not charge it take it out entirely and store it in a warm dry place but given a choice leaving it in and charged is the best solution IMHO
 
While installing the new battery on my 07 rocket I actually read the instructions shocking I know :eek: They said charging with more than 2 A will drastically reduce life of battery . The only bad part was having to find my glasses so I could read :(
 
I pulled mine out of the Rocket (stored in an unheated garage). All but one battery is in my house. One of the Americas still has its battery in it and has a Battery Tender hooked up. I've had a lot of trouble with batteries in the past few years.:(
 
From the local Exide guy: they go around the warehouse periodically and charge all batteries. He claims no damage in winter, no matter how cold, and recommends a topping off once or twice in winter to see our batteries have the life they should. I generally try to follow this advise. :eek:
