I just ordered a Avon Cobra Rear tire for my R3T. I have heard there was a recall, but it didn't seem to effect this size.... And I have wanted to try something different than the Metzler. Any Thoughts????

I believe the recall only affected the 240/50-16 size.. and most of those were a batch shipped to Europe. Only a few made it to the states..

As far as the 240/50-16 size.. I am on my second set and I am very pleased with them and won't be trying anything else.. They are great tires... and I get about 3,000 more miles out of them compared to the Metzelers.

my metzeler rear went 3500,,,,was slick,,,,avon now has 4400 and lots of tread left going to last much longer,,,ill buy avon again.

just came from over 20,000 miles on the Darkside, put on a new Avon, I love it !!!

have about 2000 on my avon 240 50 16 and it looks new yet! it seems to handle the twistys a little better than the metz! am told they dont work as well in the rain! but I dont do much riding in the rain! (hogs up the bike) and if I do get caught in it im going slow anyway!

I replaced my original Bridgestones with Avon Cobras prior to the Bridgestone recall. The Avons lasted around 8000 miles. Probably could have gotten another 1000-1500 but was headed out on a trip and decided to change.

Replaced the Avons with the free Metzlers from the recall. I felt the Avons handled better than the Metz but it looks like the Metz will give me better mileage. I'll probably replace them with another set of Avons. I'll take the reduced mileage for better performance.

The Avons on the R3T seem to perform better but not last as long compared the larger sizes on the other models. Many report better mileage from the 240 Avons, that wasn't my experience with the 180.

I was getting only 3000 on the Metzzlers. I'm thinking I was losing rubber between gears as I seldom try to "break loose" in low....MOF seldom do I use 1st. I do tend to be heavy handed in second and third though. I had to change to darkside due to economics. Metzzers were costing about $100 a month in rubber. I'm certain the turbo will make things worse when I get it installed after RAAV.

I have an old 2005 RIII and I've worn out a number of Metzlers. I installed Avons on the front and rear this spring. I've run about 4K and they look great. As far as handling I would say it's like putting "power steering" on a motorcycle. Really smooth and great handling. I'll stay with Avons for the forseable future.

I just had my fourth (OEM, then Stones, then Metzlers) set of tires installed after 17.7K miles; a couple weeks back. Decided to have Avon Cobras installed. Have about 500 miles on them so far and really like them. After 'cupping' my Metz tires, I've pumped up the tire pressure to 37 front/42 rear p.s.i. So Far so good.

Back from the dark side???

just came from over 20,000 miles on the Darkside, put on a new Avon, I love it !!!

We've heard a lot from people who have gone dark side and love it. Most say it does take a little getting used to but once you do it's as good or better than an MT. I 'd be interested in knowing what others coming back from the dark side have to say. I can imagine it must feel refreshing, at first at least, to get the original intended ride and feel back but wonder if that's the case.

I'm have no real opinion about using a CT: the economics are compelling but I'm skeptical about the way it must change the feel and handling - depending of course on riding style, conditions, surface etc. I haven't ruled it out but don't think it's for me at the moment.
