Recently as I was going through my output bearing replacement I pulled the oil pan several times looking for additional metal bits. In doing so I lost a lot of my oil. Since I was going to change it again anyway I bought Castrol 4t 10w40 synthetic motorcycle oil as it was on sale for a buck cheaper than Mobile 1. I added three quarts to top it up. I immediately noticed it shifted much harder and wanted to grind when shifting. That's what it felt like when I bought it, it had Rotella synthetic in it then. After I was sure all the skita was out of the engine, I re-filled it Mobil 1 10w40. Night and day difference. Shifted smooth as silk again. It's Mobil 1 for my money.

Interesting......good catch. i have used strictly Mobil 1 and havent had any issues....castrol is cheaper but shouldnt be that noticeable of a difference....no brainer here....will stay with mobil 1 and avoid any headaches :banghead:

When I was going to do my 1st oil change on my own, (Dealer did the 500 mile change) At 8000 miles, I read all the threads I could fine on the site on oil. Not sure who, was also sold on the Mobil 1 turbo diesel oil. I even went to Wally world and bought 2 gallons. I then called the phone number on the Mobil website to find out more. I had a question about the friction modifiers (which we don't want in our wet clutch's) and if the turbo diesel had them. He said it did indeed have these modifiers. Not too much though. I told him I wanted to put it in a motorcycle. He didn't recommend it. But that's his line. As an employee of Mobil, he can't say it would be fine. He told me the 4t, T for track, is best because it doesn't have the EPA additives for environmental control. The T is for racing motors and is exempt. I went ahead and bought 4t Amsoil. I was a preferred dealer years ago. I became one again for the discount. It comes to about $10 a quart, same as most other 4t full syn. To be honest I didn't notice any difference in shifting, which was not a problem anyway. I'm am happy with Amsoil and my Rocket will run it always. The Mobil turbo diesel is an excellent oil and will go in my vehicles. Just wanted to stay far away from the friction modifiers. That's my humble opinion and yes, I know opinions are like buttholes.

Personally I'd shy away from topping up oil with a different brand or rating than was already in there in the first place, but thanks for the vote of confidence for the Mobil, will make a note.
