OK I'm stumped for now. In the middle of the upgrade kit install. Got the bolt off the rotor in front of the stator. How do I release the taper lock on this booger??? I see a "special tool" . Looks just like the bolt with a pointed tip and a shoulder. Has anyone removed theirs without the special tools?? Any ideas appreciated. Also, would you replace the stator just for giggles? 31K on bike.

Thanks.

You could make your own bolt and anti rotation jig. Get a bolt that fits and have it machined on a lathe, a bolt with a long head (not thread) would be good you can turn the shoulder on to it. Machine grade steel should be used. Maybe a bolt out of a puller would work, just find the right thread pitch. Also that point on the bolt maybe a graphical error.

PS, If the alternator tests within spec and doesn't look cooked it should be ok (if it has been loaded up with lots of accessories you might consider changing it).
