Air box removal

Last year I put triple K&N's on. I would like to leave the air box in place for storage. I would like to remove the crankcase breather hose from the air box and put the little filter on it to keep engine fumes out of the air box (I keep my rain gear in there). What is the trick to moving the air box far enough to access the breather hose ?

you can install the crankcase filter without loosening the airbox but it's a little unnerving forcing the filter to contort a bit. Follow Ian's advice and loosen the airbox a bit and you should be good to go. +1 on the warning about running the triples without the crankcase filter.

Loosen the air box but don't remove it. It will be a tight squeeze but you should be able to remove the small air hose and maneuver the filter on and then re-tighten everything. Tighten up the clamp and you can rest knowing that it ain't gonna come off. I would also disconnect the -ve terminal from the battery first because there electrics down around there.

You shouldn't be running the triple filters without the crankcase vent filter because you are allowing dirt and stuff an entry point to the internals of your engine.

I did it without loosening anything. You can pull the hose no problem. I used a crowbar to lift the box high enough to slip the filter into place (fiddling a lot). Loosening stuff up just makes it easier, and who needs that. You only need to raise it about 1/4" to get the filter on. Tightening the filter cllamp is a whole other matter. Enjoy!

There are a couple of small bolts, 6mm I think , need a 10 mm wrench,at the top sides of the airbox. With these removed you can lift the airbox enough to fiddle the filter on.

I think I may have been an exception; I had no issues getting the crankcase filter on to the engine. There was enough room where I did not have to lift; loosen, or pry away anything.

Where does the breather filter end up. I know it's on the back of the engine is it on the right side, left side, middle ? So far I haven't even found the breather pipe. (It normally takes me a little longer)

its a small black hose, about 3"long, in the middle between the air box and engine.
remove right side cover and you can see it.
I used a long fat flat blade screw driver and pryed the hose up and off the nipple on the motor.
didn't loosen the air box.
